For Paul and Tricia: The cows need food in the winter when there is no grass to eat, so they cut the grass several times during the summer and roll it up and bale it. That way the cows don't starve. We've been having a drought, too, and they need it then as well.

Hey Tricia! Yeah, round bales like these are needed throughout much of the winter months around here. Farmers grow various types of grass in the summer, cut it and bale it up to store for use in the winter to feed the cattle. You used to see more of the small square bales, but farmers had to hire teams of people to get them out of the fields and loaded into the barns. With large round bales, one man and a tractor can move these without too much trouble.
